Mattress Cleaning Service, NYC

Mattress Cleaning New York: Allergen Removal and Deep Sanitizing

Six to eight hours a night, a few inches from your face, taking sweat, shed skin and whatever is in the air of the room. In a New York bedroom with one window and no central air, that builds faster than it does almost anywhere else. That is why a bedroom in this city needs a deeper approach than a quick surface wipe. Our mattress cleaning New York service covers dry vacuuming, stain treatment, allergen sanitizing, and odor neutralization for every mattress size, in all five boroughs.

Why Mattresses Need Attention in NYC

Why an NYC bedroom is harder on a mattress

A mattress in a small studio near Columbus Circle does not get the airflow of a mattress in a house with open windows on every side. Most NYC apartments run on a single window unit or no air conditioning, and bedrooms are often the smallest, least ventilated room in the unit. Dust mites need warmth and moisture to thrive. The EPA's guide to indoor air quality notes that house dust mites grow in damp, warm environments, and recommends keeping indoor humidity between 30 and 50 percent.

New York summers push past that often. A bedroom without central air runs above 70 percent relative humidity from June through September, which is mildew territory, worst on lower floors. The American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology notes that dust mites thrive in bedding and upholstered furniture, and exposure to their waste is a common trigger of indoor allergy and asthma symptoms.

What sanitizing actually addresses

HEPA filtered vacuuming lifts loose dust mite debris, shed skin, and pet dander from the surface. Where a pet has actually had an accident on the mattress, that is a separate enzyme job and is covered under how we treat pet accidents. Sanitizing then reduces allergen levels in the surface fabric. It lowers exposure, but does not remove every trace of allergen material, and is not a substitute for medical treatment.

What goes wrong with DIY mattress cleaning

Spot cleaning with tap water usually leaves it worse. NYC water carries 50 to 100 mg per liter of dissolved minerals, per Olympian Water Testing, and they dry into a ring. Oversoaking pushes moisture into the foam core.

Asked for a mattress steam clean? We use low moisture extraction, explained on the steam cleaning page.

How We Match Method To Material

Cleaning approach by mattress cover type

We check the cover material first, then choose a method.

Cover Type What It Means Method We Use Common In NYC
Quilted cotton or poly blend Tolerates water based cleaning well Water based extraction Most mattress in a box and innerspring mattresses
Wool or organic cotton topper Absorbs moisture slowly, needs a lighter touch Low moisture surface cleaning Common in Park Slope and Fort Greene homes
Memory foam encasement Saturates easily, dries slowly if overwet Light surface treatment, extended air drying Popular direct to consumer foam brands
Vinyl or waterproof protector Non porous, cleans easily Wipe down, light surface extraction Common in rentals with protectors
Older or vintage ticking fabric Can tear or discolor when wet Vacuum only, hidden area test first Occasionally found in older Manhattan units

How we confirm your mattress type

We check the cover fabric and run a hidden area test before any liquid touches the mattress.

The Service

What the mattress cleaning service includes

  • High-powered dry vacuuming · A HEPA-filtered tool lifts loose debris, dust mite material, and pet hair before any treatment.
  • Surface stain treatment · A water-based solution lifts sweat, body oil, and soiling from covers that tolerate moisture, then we extract it back out.
  • Allergen sanitizing treatment (add-on, $30 to $50) · Reduces surface allergen levels after cleaning.
  • Enzyme treatment for urine or pet stains (add-on) · Breaks down uric acid crystals. Cost depends on the affected area, quoted on arrival.
  • Odor neutralization · Targets musty or pet odor at the source instead of masking it.

Before & After

Mattress Cleaning Across All 5 Boroughs

How we handle mattress cleaning in every NYC bedroom

Bedroom size, building type, and heating pattern vary block to block. We plan around those details before we arrive.

Manhattan

Manhattan bookings lean toward studios, where the bed is often pushed flush against a wall.

Brooklyn

Garden apartments in Windsor Terrace and Ditmas Park hold humidity, which speeds up dust mite activity. Brownstone walk ups mean the equipment comes up in carry pieces.

Queens

Limited closet space in Astoria and Jackson Heights, so mattresses rarely get rotated or aired out.

The Bronx

Co-op City and Parkchester mean bigger mattresses, queen or king, with easy freight access.

Staten Island

Great Kills and New Dorp homes have larger bedrooms and no elevator or COI paperwork.

Co-op and condo requirements

A bedroom sits further into the building than a living room, so front desks ask more. The certificate settles it at the door and costs nothing.

What we do not do

We do not treat active bed bug infestations. Live insects or shed skins means a licensed pest control operator first, not a cleaning service.

How often, and drying time

Once a year, or every six months in an allergy sensitive home. Water based cleaning air dries in four to six hours with a fan.

Common Questions

Mattress cleaning questions from NYC homes

Twin and full run $80 to $120, queen and king $120 to $160. Allergen sanitizing adds $30 to $50, box spring cleaning $50 to $80. Enzyme treatment is priced separately.

Four to six hours with a fan running. An open window speeds it up in summer. In winter a standing fan aimed at the mattress does the same job.

In most cases, yes. An enzyme treatment breaks down the uric acid crystals behind the stain and the odour. Staining that has not reached deep into the foam responds well. Several inches of saturated foam can be reduced, not cleared.

Removing dust mite debris and surface allergens reduces what you are exposed to while you sleep. It is not a medical treatment and it does not clear every trace. With diagnosed allergies or asthma, talk to an allergist as well.

Yes, all five. Park Slope and Bay Ridge, Astoria and Forest Hills, Riverdale, Great Kills. Call (332) 242-5389 to check your neighborhood.

Extraction removes what bacteria and dust mites feed on, which is skin cells, body oil and moisture. That reduces the load rather than sterilising anything, and any company telling you a mattress comes back sterile is overselling. Drying it fully is the part that stops the problem returning.

Yes, and before is better than after. Book two or three days ahead of the date you need the room so everything is fully dry. Tell us it is a nursery when you call and we keep moisture low and skip fragranced products entirely.
